.NET

I’ve been working with the .NET ecosystem for over a decade, building scalable solutions using VB.NET, C#, ASP.NET, and EF. I’ve worked with a wide variety of architectures and frameworks

CLOUD

I’ve worked in the cloud for 5+ years, mostly Azure and Azure DevOps to setup environments, pipelines, maintain code, test projects, etc.

TEAMWORK

I thrive in agile teams, local, remote, or hybrid, and believe in the power of teamwork.

About me

I’m Mathias, a freelance developer based in Vorselaar, Belgium. I’m practical, easy to work with, and value clear communication in every project I take on.
Outside of work I love to travel, whether it’s a quick weekend trip or something further off the grid, I’m always up for exploring new places and cultures. In winter, you’ll find me snowboarding in the mountains.
The rest of the year? I’m usually gaming a bit, doing sports, spending time with my girlfriend, or grabbing a drink with friends.
In January 2026 I also became father of a beautiful little girl.

Portfolio

These are the companies I’ve worked with. A brief description can be found for each project. For more information, please download the full resume.

Euroconsumers (2023 – 2026)

I had worked for Test-Aankoop before, while that was on the local level (Belgium), I now joined the Euroconsumers group. Euroconsumers is the multinational overarching organisation of which Test-Aankoop is its Belgian division.

During my time here I joined multiple teams and projects. From a consumer-protecting complaints platform of which we had to refactor the architecture (reduce the over engineered microservices), migrate massive amounts of data and integrate with SalesForce.

To later on join a team that focused on financial services where we developed a multi-platform Flutter app backed by a GraphQL API. Behind the scenes, on one hand, data was pulled from external services, while on the other hand, we had a custom scraper running pulling in data from the internal websites.

Lastly the opportunity came to work on an AI assistant platform that should run both on the web, as in an app built in React. It’s built around Azure OpenAI, using retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) to ground the agents’ answers in our own consumer-protection content and legal documents.

Technologies
Azure OpenAI, Azure Service Bus, Azure Functions, Azure Logic Apps, APIM, Azure App Configuration, Azure Key Vault, Application Insights, RAG technique for AI/LLM, .NET 6/8, C#, Entity Framework Core, GraphQL (HotChocolate), SQL Server, data migrations, Algolia, NServiceBus, Polly, Quartz scheduling, ARM/Bicep templates, Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines, SonarQube,, Salesforce, event-driven & serverless, Flutter, Unit testing.

Katoen Natie (2021-2023)

At Katoen Natie, I joined a backend-focused team working on a new warehouse management platform called PLATO.

I started as a senior developer and eventually became technical lead, overseeing several API-based services that integrated with a React frontend. We developed tools for notifications, customer master data, silo setup, and appraisals all aimed at centralizing data and improving internal workflows.

I was also involved in a reporting system for Power BI and a specialized pick-up app in collaboration with the Port of Antwerp. These projects helped streamline warehouse operations and enabled better communication across teams.

Technologies
C#, .NET Core, Entity Framework, Azure, Azure Functions, Azure DevOps, ServiceFabric, ARM Templates, Event Hub, NServiceBus, EventStore, Application Insights, XUnit

SCK CEN (2019 – 2020)

At SCK, I worked on a desktop application to centralize and digitize the logging of radioactive materials, which were previously tracked separately by each unit. The tool was developed for internal use but also met government compliance requirements. I continued existing development and expanded functionality, using Entity Framework to handle database access.

Technologies
C#, .NET Core, Entity Framework, XAML, WPF, SQL

Toyota Material Handling (2019)

At Toyota, I worked on digitizing the manual planning process used for machine assembly. The new system allowed drag-and-drop task scheduling across four stages: assembly, welding, painting, and quality check. It was developed as a web tool so planning could be updated collaboratively and shown directly on the production floor. The frontend was a lightweight HTML/jQuery interface, backed by a .NET Core API and Entity Framework for database access.

Technologies
C#, .NET Core, Entity Framwork, Javascript, JQuery, SQL

Test-Aankoop (2017 – 2019)

At Test-Aankoop, I initially worked on projects in the Belgian web team, enhancing existing features and migrating legacy systems to Sitecore.

After about 4 months there was an opening in a new team, the Test-AankoopVerzekeringen team. Here we develop a tool to compare car insurances. In the first team I had a more assisting function, here I was tech lead. This came with more responsibilities like attending meetings to keep the project on par technology-wise, production deploys, and planning refactorings within a certain budget.

Technologies
C#, .NET Core, Entity Framework, Sitecore, Azure, Azure DevOps, SQL, SnapTest, TypeScript, GraphQL, Algolia, Bicep Templates, SVN, TeamCity

BNP Paribas Fortis (2016 – 2017)

Through the digital agency Idweaver, I worked on projects for BNP Paribas Fortis in two different teams. In one, I helped build a new version of the Innovation Hub websit,e a platform for startups and scale-ups.

In the second, I worked on Hello Home, a tool where users could simulate mortgage options and apply directly. I also helped build a widget and API for third-party integration. My role in both teams was backend developer, collaborating closely with frontend and project management.

Technologies
C#, .NET Framework, MVC, Sitefinity, SQL, Angular, TypeScript

Remmicom (2015 – 2016)

I’m part of a small team responsible for civil services software used by local government offices. The main application covers domains like electronic passports, driver’s licenses, address changes, inoculations, and birth registration. It also handles interactions with the national register for tasks like name or marital status changes. Our goal is to simplify case follow-up and improve clarity for end users.

Technologies
VB.NET, Custom framework, XAML, WPF, WCF, SQL, SQL Reporting Services

Axxes (2015 – 2024)

After graduating with an IT degree, I immediately started at a consultancy firm called Axxes. A smaller company with less than 100 employees, but I’ve seen it grow over the years.

Besides client projects, I was also involved in an internal project called Performance Cycle. This tool helps employees track goals, give feedback, and check in regularly with their team and HR. I joined the project early on and gradually took on a lead role, guiding junior developers and supporting technical decisions. Together with a small team, we delivered the tool to a new client and continued improving the system over time.

Technologies
C#, .NET Core, Entity Framework, Azure, Azure DevOps, SQL, BitBucket, Jira
